About the BITCOIN Act

The BITCOIN Act (Boosting Innovation, Technology and Competitiveness through Optimized Investment Nationwide Act) was introduced by Senator Cynthia Lummis on July 31, 2024. The legislation proposes purchasing 1 million Bitcoin over time, representing approximately 5% of Bitcoin's total supply, to be held for at least 20 years and potentially used to reduce national debt.

Senate: Bill S.4912 introduced and referred to the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. Senate vote not yet scheduled.

House: On March 11, 2025, Congressman Nick Begich announced plans to introduce the BITCOIN Act of 2025 with 6 co-sponsors.
